Jonathan Mace provides another blog post- this time about his experiences at the choir rehearsals:
I was blessed to attend the first pageant choir rehearsal for our area at the Walsall chapel tonight. My parents will be part of the live choir and I thought I’d tag along to add my voice to the sound for now and also to get my ‘fix’ of the latest pageant developments. I hate to think that there is something going on without me knowing about it!
We were led by Brother Ben Batt who is part of the composing team for the pageant. After trying a fairly simple arrangement (albeit with a new tune) of ‘How Firm a Foundation’ we were thrust into the deep end trying a bit of the overture for the pageant and Ben’s own arrangement of ‘Oh What Songs of the Heart’. Both of these arrangements are just beautifully intricate and a joy to sing (once your part is mastered!). I really started to get a sense of what a 200+ voice choir will sound like singing these powerful anthems of the restoration and traditional songs from the home countries. It will be a magnificent addition to what is already seeming to be a joyous pageant.
I wish I could sing as part of the choir as well as the other things that I’m attempting to do for pageant! There must come a point in the near future where I give up trying to do everything badly and instead concentrate on what I’ve been specifically asked to do and give everything to that. But until then, I look forward to the next few rehearsals with our faithful band of voices in Walsall. It was a pleasure getting to know others who are starting to catch a glimpse of the majestic nature of this work.
And again I shout out to all, Get Involved! Just turn up to your nearest pageant choir centre next week (Walsall, Staines, Leicester etc) and join in. I promise you that you will not regret it!
Welcome to the website for Truth Will Prevail – The British Pageant
In the summer of 2013 the United Kingdom is to play host to the first official pageant of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) to take place outside of North America since the 1970′s -1980′s when it was held in New Zealand. In the USA pageants are big part of Latter-day Saint culture in the summer months, with annual events in Manti, Palmyra and Nauvoo. These events commemorate important events from Church history the scriptures and have audiences of thousands each year.
The LDS British Pageant is to follow the same format but with a focus on the history of the Church in the British Isles, written and performed by members from around the United Kingdom. Throughout their history, the British people have demonstrated this desire to do God’s will, requiring personal sacrifice and tremendous courage. This pageant will tell the story of Latter-day Saints who have sacrificed much to build their faith, and to strengthen their communities. Through their abiding faith and deep love for one another and the Saviour, the Saints discovered their lives were full of the joy of the gospel. They taught their children and these youth carried on a legacy of devotion to the principles of the restored Gospel which is manifest throughout the world-wide church. Today, families and youth in the British Isles know this joy and continue to take it to all the world. The pageant will explore events surrounding the beginning of the Church and the impact of these events through the years in the British Isles.
The pageant is filled with authentic hymns and folk songs, lively dances and tender moments that share the joy found in living Christ’s gospel. Through words taken from journals, sermons and historic records of the period, the pageant invites all to feel the powerful testimonies of these faithful Christians.
The performance dates will be July 31st, August 1-3 and 6-10. In addition to the performance involving a cast of over two hundred, each day will have pre-show performers and other activities for the audience.
